Angels thanked at Umduduzi breakfast

“There are approximately 22 000 children living with life limiting and life threatening illnesses in KZN."

LOCAL non-profit organisation, Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children, hosted its 5th annual Angel’s Breakfast at Durban Girls’ College at the weekend.

Guest speaker Janet Ireland, cancer survivor and bereaved mother, shared her incredible journey of hope, faith, resilience and gratitude. Janet said on dealing with loss: “I have had to learn I have a choice in how I live each day. I get to decide to focus on things I am extremely grateful for – rainbows, robins, butterflies, my daughter, my husband, my friends.”

Termed the Angel’s Breakfast, part of the event is to honour other organisations that support Umduduzi and provide care to children. This year Dr Thanashiya Manduray accepted the award on behalf of The Stanger Hospital Paediatric Department and the recently established Junaid Foundation was recognised for their food parcel donations.

Director Tracey Brand said: “There are approximately 22 000 children living with life limiting and life threatening illnesses in KZN that need this kind of holistic support. Very few can access it. It is time to advocate for palliative care for these children.”
