Allegations of mismanagement surround Sparks Secondary School

On Saturday, an urgent parents meeting was held at the school where the school's finances were discussed and concerns over the missing money were raised.

LEARNERS and parents from Sparks Estate Secondary School are gathered at the offices of the Department of Education in Umbilo, where they are waiting for the Director of the Department to address them regarding allegations of mismanagement and a sum of money amounting to almost R600 000 that has gone missing from the school.

On Saturday, an urgent parents meeting was held at the school where the school’s finances were discussed and concerns over the missing money were raised.

 

 

It is believed the problem goes back to 2013 when it was first discovered that funds were missing and the Department of Education was alerted.

The Department subsequently ordered that an audit be done which revealed that more than R300 000 was missing.

Since then, the school’s present Governing Body has carried out a futher audit and revealed on Saturday at the meeting that the total had now grown to close to R600 000.
