Speed humps installed to curb speedsters

"Residents and schools are encouraged to forward requests to me, however they need to take into cognisance that each speed bump costs R40 000."

SPEED calming measures have been installed along three roads in ward 31 over the past month.

Councillor Chris Pappas said speed bumps have been installed on Berea Park Road, Juniper Road and Capell Road.

“I am happy the municipality has erected speed bumps in these roads, which will curb speeding in these areas. The next roads to receive speed bumps will be Hugo Road in Sydenham, and Julia Road and Seaforth Road in Musgrave,” he said.

Pappas said he had also put forward a request for speed calming in Meadow Road, and was hoping speed bumps in these roads would be erected before the end of the financial year in June, however he thought it would most likely happen in the next financial year.

Along with the erection of speed bumps, Pappas said he was also looking to employ a number of scholar patrols for school children in Hartley Road, Overport, in Brickfield, Randles Road and Lacey Road.

“Residents and schools are encouraged to forward requests to me, however they need to take into cognisance that each speed bump costs R40 000, so it is an expensive project,” he said.

Pappas said he would forward requests to Metro Police. Contact him on ward31@ethekwini.org.
