Tourism thumbs up to Know your City programme

“The main aim of this programme is to introduce a culture of travelling to our disadvantaged children."

USHAKA Marine World got a huge thumbs up from Grade 4 learners from Umbumbulu’s Bhekulwandle Primary School recently, when they visited the uShaka Marine World’s Sea World Education Centre as part of the “Know your City” tour programme.

The children were shown around by founder of Azibuyemasisweni Tourism Consultancy and the programme, Maseru Madlala, uShaka CEO Stella Khumalo and Pearl Olivier, project co-ordinator.

The eThekwini Municipality’s Community Participation Children and Vulnerable Group Department and various city stakeholders from attractions, stadiums and museums, have joined forces to create this programme which provides primary schools in rural areas with tourism based educational information enrichment through travelling and touring.

Maseru Madlala explained: “The main aim of this programme is to introduce a culture of travelling to our disadvantaged children. Our thanks goes to uShaka Marine World for providing one of the exciting cultural and educational visits for these kids who have never travelled from their local home towns!”

“We believe that this visit will help them get to know the city of Durban and its lifestyle from an early age so that they can grow up to promote travelling lifestyle and sell our beautiful city at the same time.”

Zwakele Primary and Zenzeleni Primary from Inanda also plan to visit uShaka Marine World soon as part of the programme.
