Don’t open false cases, says Durban SAPS

A woman is to appear in court for defeating the ends of justice.

KWAZULU-NATAL acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, has issued a warning again reporting false cases.

This comes after a woman was arrested for defeating the ends of justice. According to Col Thembeka Mbhele from provincial SAPS, on 14 March the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested a 25-year-old woman for defeating the ends of justice after she allegedly opened a false case against a deceased man.

“The victim alleged that on 19 February she met with a businessman for the purpose of employment. She said they had met on Smith Street and proceeded to Sangro House offices where the man indecently exposed himself to her. She opened a case of indecent exposure at Durban Central SAPS for further investigation,” said Mbhele.

However, upon investigation it was confirmed that the suspect, aged 76, had died in April 2016, a fact also confirmed with Home Affairs.

“It was concluded that the victim had opened a case based on lies and was then arrested for defeating the ends of justice, fraud and perjury. She will appear in Durban Magistrates’ Court,” said Mbhele.

Responding to the case, Langa said: “We would like to warn members of the public to refrain from reporting false cases as this constitutes a crime and unnecessary abuse of state resources.”
