Don’t fall for registration scams

Berea SAPS is urging students not to fall for registration scams.

BEREA SAPS is urging students to be aware of scams around university registration.

Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS said universities were busy with registration and this was when criminals took advantage.

“They will lie to the students that if they pay them a certain amount of money the student will automatically be registered with that institution. No monies should be paid to anyone outside or inside the campus except at the cash office where a receipt will be given to you for your registration,” said Capt Naidoo.

Capt Naidoo also urged students not to deposit money into someone’s account for something they have not checked out, such as accommodation, cars or property for sale.

“Make sure you know who you dealing with and make sure it’s genuine before making payment,” said Naidoo.
