KWAZULU-NATAL’s Class of 2017 has every reason to celebrate! The province’s private schools featured prominently in the Independent Examination Board’s (IEB) 2017 exams. Of the 89 schools whose learners featured in the country’s outstanding achievers’ lists, 21 schools were from KZN.
Durban Girls’ College’s Chloe Royston scored seven distinctions earning herself a place on the IEB’s prestige outstanding and commendable achievements list. Clifton’s Rahul Mistric also made it onto the commendable achievements lists with seven distinctions while his fellow classmates, Ethan Kraus and Robert Searle each earned six distinctions. Kashin Ramnarayan of St Henry’s Marist College scored with six distinctions and also earned himself a mention on the IEB’s commendable achievements list while fellow classmate, Katelyn Kalil was in second place, achieving seven subject distinctions, with 97 per cent for mathematics which places her in the top one per cent of all IEB candidates for mathematics in 2017. Cailin Donachie, Qondisa Sibeko, Charet Savrimuthu and Catherine Harrison of Maris Stella each achieved six distinctions.
The IEB announced a 98.76 per cent matric pass rate for 2017, up from 98.67 per cent in 2016. Of the total learners who passed, 88.50 per cent are eligible to study towards a degree.
Learners who want to have their papers remarked have until 10 January to apply for a remark. Remarking results will be available on 5 February. Those learners who qualify to enrol for supplementary exams have until 12 February to enrol.
Meanwhile, learners at the Department of Basic Education schools will have to wait until Thursday night when their results are announced.
