Quins lose to ACC

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club lost by there wickets against ACC in a challenge league match.

FOUR of Umbilo Harlequins club’s eight cricket teams were engaged in league matches on Sunday 4 December.

Quins’ first team took on Amanzimtoti Cricket club’s top team in 50 over a side steam one challenge league encounter. Quins lost the vital coin toss and were instructed to bat first. Number four batsman Momadtalha Motalha scored 19 runs, Faiyas Safri top scored with 35 runs. Kevin Kettle managed 17 runs, Andrea Del Moro accumulated 18 runs and Mohamed Patel struck 16 runs to take Quins through to a slightly below par tally of 147 runs.

A blistering continuous spell of eight overs with the wind resulted in Kevin Kettle removing the entire top order to have ACC reeling at four wickets, however with the exception of Mohamed Patel, Quins’ medium pacers were non-penetrative. Mohamed with his high front on action into the wind achieved some sprightly bounce with the keeper standing up to the stumps, capturing one opposition wicket for 30 runs off 7.4 overs. Andrea Del Moro took one wicket in five overs conceding seven runs.

It was the lack of penetration by the bulk of Quins’ medium pacers and general sub-standard fielding by Quins which allowed ACC to surpass the target with three wickets remaining and 14 overs which still could be bowled.

Other team results: Quins 2 lost to ACC 2. Quins 4 versed Newlands East/Kensea – Quins won by three wickets. The U11 team versed Silver Saints – Quins won by 54 runs.

Quins’ developing team versed Chatsworth 306 – Quins lost by eight wickets.

All Quins’ teams with the exception of the third and sixth sides have league matches scheduled for the coming weekend. The first team will verse Dawn Heights from Stanger at 9am. A sixes tournament will be held at Harlequins Cricket Club from 7am on Saturday 16 December.

Coaching sessions for juniors will be on Thursday from 4.30pm and practice sessions for seniors will be on Friday from 4.30pm.
