Mum, daughter caught in horror crash

Two occupants of the light motor vehicle, a mother and her 22-year-old daughter, were severely entrapped and Durban Fire Rescue used the Jaws of Life to cut the two free.

A 54-year-old woman was tragically killed in a horror crash on Bellair Road near Albert Luthuli Hospital in Cato Manor this morning.

According to Garrith Jamieson, Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene just after 8.30am to find absolute carnage.

Two trucks had collided before crushing a light motor vehicle after which one truck overturned.

Two occupants of the light motor vehicle, a mother and 22-year-old daughter, were severely entrapped and Durban Fire Rescue used the Jaws of Life to cut the two free.

Unfortunately the mother who was a passenger in the vehicle had suffered extensive injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

The driver, her daughter,  sustained serious injuries and was stabilised by Advanced Life Support Paramedics whilst being cut free.

Once freed she was carefully extricated from the wreckage using special spinal equipment. She was rushed to Albert Luthuli Hospital. Both truck drivers had sustained minor injuries.

The entire roadway was blocked and closed in both directions whilst emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. It is not yet known what lead up to the collision.
