Glenwood triumphant in final fixtures

Glenwood High's first waterpolo team are undefeated in their school fixtures.

THERE was plenty of waterpolo action at the weekend when Glenwood High School’s waterpolo teams played their finals fixtures for the year against Northwood and DHS.

At Northwood, the younger teams had some tough games with U14A losing 6-4, U14B losing 7-0, U15A losing and U15B losing 6-3. The second team won its game convincingly with a 5-1 score. The first team played a great game against a young Northwood side with goals scored by Slade Du Randt, Declan Kirkbride, Bulelani Mzimela and Gabriel Stopford. The final score was 7-0 to Glenwood.

The last fixture of the season was played against DHS at home. The atmosphere was a good one and the boys were in high spirits. The younger teams all had good games with wins for the U14A of 8-2, the U15A of 4-0 and the second team had a great game with a 12-0 win.

The first team was looking forward to ending a winning season on a high and as it was the last fixture for the three matric boys Gabriel Stopford, Slade Du Randt and James Livingstone, the spirit was infectious. The game was a relaxed one with some great goals scored across the board from both the younger players and the more experienced players.

Keeper Alex Van Rooyen yet again made some incredible saves and only conceded four goals. The final score was 23-4, a great end to a fantastic season for these boys who are undefeated in their school fixtures.
