Biking Vikings do it for the kids

The Biking Vikings took on the Shova to raise funds for iThemba Lethu.

CYCLIST, Bruce Gibson, the bearded and long term friend and ambassador of the iThemba Lethu transition homes in Manor Garden, was so inspired by the significant campaign of The Cows who compete to raise funds for CHOC, that he developed his own brand of cycling champions for charity aptly named The Biking Vikings.

He added horns to his helmet and plaited his beard and took to the road on Sunday, 22 October, to cycle another Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic to raise awareness and funds for iThemba Lethu's Family Integration Programme. The core purpose of the programme is to nurture the 12 vulnerable babies and children currently in the homes, in order to facilitate their transition into permanent families.

The peloton of 11 riders flying the destiny flag, included house dad Ethan van der Linde, Cuan Baxendale, and his dad, Shaun, who with his wife Charlene were the first house parents back in 2000. Since then iThemba Lethu has facilitated 94 adoptions and 24 re-unifications, as they believe the best place for a vulnerable child is in their own forever family.
