Suspected stolen vehicles seized in Umbilo

It is alleged that vehicles were on sale and when police conducted an inspection, it was established that their engines and other parts had been tampered with.

THE SAPS Vehicle Identification Section conducted an intelligence driven operation at an auto display premises in Umbilo that operates on Sundays, and seized seven vehicles.

It is alleged that vehicles were on sale and when police conducted an inspection, it was established that their engines and other parts had been tampered with.

The impounded vehicles included sedans and pickup trucks.

The vehicles were intended to be sold to unsuspecting individuals and were taken to the police pound for further investigation.

No arrest was made, however investigations will continue to prevent similar incidents and to apprehend criminals behind the whole operation.

“We urge the public who intend to buy vehicles at these places to make sure the vehicles they buy are properly checked with Vehicle Identification Section to prevent being arrested for possession of stolen property, buying stolen property, theft of motor vehicle or to be linked to hijacking cases that they are not aware of,” said KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
