Plans afoot to clean up Che Guevara Road

Ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe and Councillor Nicole Graham are working with DSW to come up with a plan to clean up Che Guevara Road.

THE continuous problem of littering and illegal dumping in Che Guevara (Moore) Road needs to be addressed, says ward 33 Councillor, Mmabatho Tembe.

She said she was working on a combined project with Nicole Graham, PR councillor for ward 28, which forms part of the lower half of the road, and that they had met with Durban Solid Waste officials last week to discuss a way forward.

“Durban Solid Waste has heard our complaints and concerns and has said it would come up with a plan to deal with the dirt infested road, especially in lower Glenwood. They have promised they will formulate a plan to address this, and I have also requested an increase in sweepers in Che Guevara, Helen Joseph and Brand Roads in the meantime,”she said.

Tembe said there had been an increase in illegal dumping in Brand and Che Guevara Roads, as well as an increase in the amount of litter as a result of the increase in pedestrians on the roads.

“Durban Solid Waste workers do sweep in these roads, but not often enough. Residents also need to take their garbage bags out on the right days, as vagrants go through them and mess the roads before Durban Solid Waste arrives. Residents also need to take responsibility,” she said.
