Jewish women collect for fire victims

The response was overwhelming and people had been extremely generous with donations.

THE Union of Jewish Women (UJW) is overwhelmed by the response to their appeal for donations for the victims of the Knysna fires.

Evelyn Cohen, UJW secretary, said the response had been ‘absolutely overwhelming’ and that people had been extremely generous.

“We could hardly move in our offices and the passages were piled high too. The office was full of black bags and boxes of shoes, toiletries and food as well as 600 blankets! We thank everyone who donated, whether cash, clothing, towels, blankets or food, it is all very much appreciated,” she said.

The appeal was sent out via email, and UJW committee members also “canvassed” their email and Facebook friends for donations.

“We thank everyone for being so caring and for participating in this drive,” said Evelyn.
