Boy survives near-drowning after seizure

The eight-year-old boy had an epileptic seizure while playing in the swimming pool.

A YOUNG boy survived a near drowning at Durban beachfront on Friday afternoon.

According to Chris Botha from Netcare 911, at around 3.20pm paramedics responded to the incident at the swimming pools on Wedge Beach. Botha said reports from the aunt of the eight-year-old boy indicate that he had suffered an epileptic seizure while playing in the swimming pool.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the family had pulled him out of the pool and the lifeguards were treating him. After they examined the child, it was found that he had aspirated some water into the lungs and suffered near drowning symptoms,” said Botha.

Paramedics stabilised the boy at the scene before they transported him to hospital.
