THE Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal have managed to secure a number of convictions on crimes directed at women and children.
The team of dedicated investigators from FCS units secured a total of 49 convictions, including 13 life sentences, 319 years and six months imprisonment in the past month for rape.
A total 390 suspects were arrested during the said month for various crimes like rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, child abandonment, kidnapping, armed robbery, attempted murder and other offences.
“These sentences are evident that the FCS units in KwaZulu-Natal are committed in making sure that all those who prey on defenceless women and children are brought to book for a long time.
“Their names will also be listed on the National Register of Sexual Offenders,” said the KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
