Shark nets go up allowing Durban beaches to open

Six of the seven missing shark nets have been recovered and reinstalled

BEACH clean-up operations and shark net installations are still on-going at eThekwini beaches. This comes after strong tidal waves wreaked havoc and damaged infrastructure along the promenade on the weekend.

All city beaches, excluding Country Club and eThekwini beaches are currently open. Battery Beach has been re-opened however in the event of a high tide it will be closed.

Sand mopping operations are progressing well. Areas in front of commercial sites have been cleared and will be swept using a suction truck.

In terms of infrastructure repairs, most of the sea wall capping has been replaced. Plumbing has been repaired and the showers are all working.

Six of the seven missing shark nets have been recovered and all beaches between uShaka Beach and the Country Club have had shark nets reinstalled.

The last remaining nets are expected to be installed at eThekwini and Lagoon beaches today (Friday 17 March).
