Maths and science centre opens at DHS

Mathematics and science to flourish with a new development at Durban High School.

DURBAN High School ended a successful year of celebrations for its 150th anniversary in 2016 with work beginning on the refurbishment of the science block into a state-of-the-art mathematics and science centre.

This upgrade cost R6.6m and has been sponsored by very generous donations of R5.1m from The Victor Daitz Foundation and R1.5m from The DHS Foundation Trust.

The transformation of the existing science block into The Victor Daitz Mathematics and Science Centre concluded on Wednesday, 22 February, with the official opening ceremony taking place.

With education as one of the beneficiaries of the Victor Daitz Foundation and Daitz’ belief that mathematics and science are the cornerstones of education, DHS was granted the funding for the centre. The centre boasts an auditorium, science laboratories and redecorated and refurnished classrooms, all fitted with data projectors and IT connectivity, which will be immensely beneficial to all the learners who have the opportunity to learn within its walls.
