THE Durban High School Foundation Trust has announced the appointment of Mr Louis Ardé as the CEO of the DHS Foundation, effective 1 January.
Mr Ardé joins the DHS Foundation to assist Durban High School in its pursuit of education excellence. He said he regards his appointment as a privilege and looks forward to the exciting challenges that will present themselves.
“As an Old Boy of the School, I am thrilled to be able to serve the Durban High School community and to assist the Foundation, old boys and staff in their efforts to provide a school of excellence to the boys of DHS. Great strides have recently been made and we need to ensure this momentum continues,” he said.
Mr Ardé grew up in Morningside and attended DHS. He was actively involved in cricket and played on the 1st team for the school. He then attended Rhodes University where he attained a BA Honours Degree and an HDE. He was the Rhodes University Sportsman of the Year in 1979 and 1980.
An all-round sportsman, Mr Ardé captained Natal, SA Universities and Eastern Province Currie Cup soccer teams as well as the national South African team. He received the State President’s Award for soccer in 1983. Mr Ardé also played rugby throughout his school days and represented Rhodes University during his tertiary education years.
On returning to Durban, he captained both the African Wanderers Football Club and Durban City Football Club in the National Professional Soccer League. Mr Ardé embarked on his career in education in 1984 and taught at Park View Primary and Morningside Primary School. In 1994, he was appointed as an HOD at Chelsea Prep and deputy principal at Virginia in 1998.
He became principal of Parkview Senior Primary in 2001, changing the direction of the school in 2003 by renaming it Glenwood Preparatory School. He has for the past 16 years headed Glenwood Preparatory School with distinction.
