Man killed in apparent hijacking

Paramedics declared the man, believed to be in his 40s, deceased at the scene.

A man has been killed in an apparent hijacking near the Durban Magistrates Court this afternoon.

According to Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care Paramedics, the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, died after  a shooting incident and collision on Somtseu Road near the court around 1.30pm today.

Jamieson said paramedics were called to the scene where they found a vehicle had smashed through the fence of the court. They found the man had sustained injuries as well as a bullet wound to his upper body. Sadly, paramedics were unable to help the victim and he was declared deceased at the scene.

At this stage events leading up to the incident are unknown and police are investigating.
