Councillor shocked by filth outside King Edward

Ward 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, will contact DSW to clean up outside King Edward Hospital.

WARD councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, has vowed to do all she can to clean up the area outside King Edward Hospital.

Following a complaint by a resident who visited his brother-in-law at the hospital recently, Tembe took a drive to the hospital to see what issues were evident and needed attention.

Gary Cronje said he was shocked by the filth outside the hospital, and the fact that raw sewage was seeping out onto the road.

“It’s a hell of a sight! There was raw sewage on the road and newspapers and dirt were lying on the roads from the hospital. The gutters are full of litter. It’s such a shame. This sort of thing shouldn’t happen near a hospital, it’s terrible,” he said.

Tembe accompanied Berea Mail to the hospital and was shocked by the amount of rubbish lying on the pavements in Rick Turner Road, as well as a manhole which was bubbling over with water.

“I’m interested to know how long this water has been pumping out of this manhole onto the road. It is such a waste of water I am surprised this hasn’t been reported sooner,” she said.

Tembe contacted the municipality and was given a reference number. She said she hoped the issue would be addressed urgently.

“Something needs to be done to clean up this area. I will contact DSW to attend to it,” she said.
