Armed gang rob Musgrave bank customer

A gang of armed men wielding AK47's has robbed a Chinese man at a Musgrave bank.

A GANG of heavily armed men allegedly robbed a foreign national at a bank in Musgrave this afternoon.

Berea police are still at the scene investigating the armed robbery. The bank was closed after the incident.

According to a visibly shaken witness, who had just left the bank, she saw the distressed man run into the bank with a bag of what she believed was cash.

“I’m just scared. I don’t even want to say anything because he saw me and I saw the three men with AK47 rifles rush into the bank behind the man. I thought he was able to get the money to safety,”she said, after realising the suspects had made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.

The woman was about to leave the bank when her car was blocked by the suspects vehicle, but within moments they had fled.

The victim, a Chinese national,  was apparently on his way to the bank to deposit cash when the suspects tried to accost him.

Another witness at the scene said the man allegedly tried to throw the bag of cash over the counter, however the suspects jumped over the counter, traumatising staff, in their efforts to retrieve the bag.
