Maris Stella girls raise funds for Project Dignity

The grade nine girls at Maris Stella handed over a donation to Project Dignity and also added special letters to the less fortunate young girls they donated to.

GRADE 9 learners at Maris Stella supported Project Dignity by raising funds for Subz Pants and Pads, an initiative that supplies girls with washable and reusable sanitary pads and panties.

Every year each grade at the school raises money throughout the year to contribute towards a charity of that grades choice. This year, Sarah Henderson, one of the Grade nine teachers recommended that the girls donate their funds to Subz Pants and Pads to support Project Dignity.

Three of the Grade nine classes donated their funds to girls their same age, who are less fortunate than themselves. As a special touch with their donation, the Maris Stella girls all wrote letters to the girls who will be receiving the donation.

Founder of Project Dignity, Sue Barnes and Brenda McCann visited the school to collect the letters and funds for the Subz Pads and Panties.

“It’s amazing to have the support of Maris Stella for our project. It is wonderful to know that these young ladies are helping other young ladies, less fortunate, to keep their dignity and stay in school,” said Brenda from Subz Pants and Pads.

Project Dignity provides young South African women from disadvantaged communities with reusable, eco-friendly sanitary pads and panties thereby reducing school absenteeism rates.
