Showcasing talent, beauty and charisma will be an annual experience for Actonville residents as the Mr and Miss Actonville applications are now open at no cost to applicants.

The event will take place on October 9 at the Actonville Community Hall. Organiser Shannon Kannigan said that the pageant aims to give citizens an experience that builds their confidence and helps develop social, communications and grooming skills in a fun and memorable manner.

Kannigan spoke to the City Times on what applicants can expect.

To give each contestant enough time to shine and to accommodate all supporters of the participants, the pageant has been split into three categories based on age groups:

• Mr and Miss Actonville Junior 2021 – Ages six to 12 (10:00)

• Mr and Miss Actonville Teen 2021 – Ages 13 to 17 (14:00)

• Mr and Miss Actonville 2021 – Ages 18 – 31 (18:00)

Participants will take part in four rounds based on fashion, such as school uniforms (for junior and teen), white top (for adults), casual, formal and the last round is the interview round.

How to enter?

Entry forms can be found on the official Facebook page of Mr and Miss Actonville.

What do they need to qualify?

Participants need to be between ages six-31 and either work, reside or study in Actonville.

The pageant looks to celebrate all gender identities, body shapes and sizes, races and beliefs.

What is the closing date of the pageant?

The closing date is October 9 because there are no pre auditions and rehearsals. Contestants are welcome to enter on the day of the show at the venue.

What will they be judged on?

Contestants will be judged on confidence, pose and poster, personality, presentation and appearance, style and walk.
What will be the duties of the winners?

This is the first year for Mr and Miss Actonville; however, we would like to get all winners more involved in upbuilding the community and to represent Actonville, Benoni, by possibly entering winners in other main pageants throughout the 12 months.

What sort of prizes will be won?

There will be grand prizes contributed by the event organiser as well as prizes contributed by local businesses.

Besides titleholders receiving gifts, the organisation aims to invest in each winner individually over the next 12 months.

Who will be the judges?

The panel will be made up of different professionals, from pageantry icons, models, renowned Actonville entrepreneurs and residents who have contributed to the community.

There will be three sets of judges for each category.

“Participating in Mr Gay Worlds SA expanded my social skills, communications skills, grooming and posture skills and it built my self-confidence. I would like to pay it forward to the community. There is not a lot of extracurricular activities for the youth in Actonville so if it makes a difference in one person’s life my job is done,” said Kanning.
