A brush with local artists: meet Pamela Selkirk

The Benoni Art Route exhibits every last Sunday of the month at CR Swart Dam, Rynfield, from 09:00 to 15:00.

Every artist dips his brush in his soul and paints his nature into his pictures. – Henry Ward Beecher

Driven by soul and to find the elusive quality of light, Pamela van der Stelt (Pamela Selkirk) believes the aesthete is invited to feel the emotions of the piece. To feel connected, to be part of the painting, to not want to let go.

Pamela is a self-taught artist and completed art at high school with distinction.

She is running two studios in Benoni and Edenvale. Time is limited, so when she’s not teaching, you will find her in the studio where she’s at peace.

In 2011 Pamela and her daughter, Lyndl, founded Twisted Tree Art Studio, where she teaches adults how to paint and the children’s classes are run by Lyndl.

The Benoni Art Route (Bar) member said she is grateful to be a full-time artist and to do what she loves each day.

“Art transports me to a place of peace and creativity, that’s my inner journey,” she said.

Her frame of mind necessitates the variances in her painting style and often there are a few paintings in the studio waiting to be completed.

In this way, she creates unique and individualised pieces without focusing on one particular genre, although large macro florals are her greatest passion.

Colour, texture, technique and style are individually chosen for each work to convey the mood and meaning.

She loves the diversity in the resulting artwork and hopes her collectors will too.

As part of Bar, she values the opportunity of exhibiting her work and knows her buyers find pleasure when hanging them up in their homes.

Bar is open to all individuals who have a passion for creativity in all drawing and painting disciplines, as well as sculpture.

Upon joining Bar, all members whose work has been approved pay a membership fee towards the end of a year for the following year.

Anyone who wishes to participate in exhibitions after membership closed for a year may apply to exhibit their work monthly as a guest artist upon paying a monthly fee.

The art route exhibits every last Sunday of the month at CR Swart Dam, Rynfield, from 09:00 to 15:00.
