How to rejuvenate your cars headlights

Vehicle headlights nowadays are made of plastic instead of glass and the rather bad thing about it is that the plastic degrades and clouds over. 

Here’s how to clean them at home and make them new again. 

You will need the following tools for the procedure:

• Flannel polishing cloth
• Latex gloves
• Masking tape
• Wet and dry sandpaper (1000 to 2500 grit)
• Plastic polish

Step 1 

You need to wash and sand the headlight horizontally with warm soapy water and rinse it with plenty of clear water and then let it dry. Mask the area around the lens to avoid scratching the paint, soak the sheets of the sandpaper in water for few minutes.

Depending on the condition of the headlight, use the 1 000 grip sandpaper for the less damaged headlight and the 2 000 for the intense one. Make sure you sand the headlights in one direction.

Step 2

Rinse and sand vertically. Rinse and change direction with the next grit. 

Step 3

In the 3rd step you must wash it with plenty of water then let it dry. Apply firm pressure on the headlight while polishing it in a circular motion until it becomes smooth and clear.

Step 4

Apply polish on the headlight and wait for it to dry and then use a clean cloth to buff any polish residue. 

Do this step over and over again until all residue is removed.
