Gender-based violence film being produced in Daveyton

The 30-year-old said he created the film to create awareness of GBV as it is escalating in the country, leaving many households broken.

The founder of Daveyton TV, Petro “Daddy” Khoza, is working on a film in Benoni that will showcase the effects of gender-based violence.

Khoza established a community television channel five years ago to give Daveyton residents and other neighbourhoods a platform to share stories, motivations and to showcase local talent and interesting content.

His latest production, Cleopatra, will be released in June.

The 30-year-old said he created the film to create awareness of GBV as it is escalating in the country, leaving many households broken.

“GBV is inflicting pain among many and we are raising a broken generation. We need to learn to live in peace,” said Khoza.

“I am working with students from Mannaseh Pictures Film Academy and the famous Mduduzi Mdlalose as a director and actors Vusimuzu Mdaka and Zakhele Zakes Msimango.

“Students participate as part of the practicals and also to develop talent.

“I have a passion for telling community stories. I am a firm believer in the impossible, for it always seems impossible until it is done,” he said.

The up-and-coming film director said creating films has always been his first love.

“I want to create films that will tell our own stories to the world. Cleopatra is being filmed around Daveyton so it showcases our neighbourhood.”

He told the City Times that in a few years they want to be the main media publishing company in the world.

“We want to offer our services globally, reaching all corners of the world with local talent, entertainment and by inspiring other people to dream bigger.”
