Porsche expands Taycan range with tail-happy model

The fourth variant slots just below the Taycan 4S

Buyers of the fully-electric Porsche Taycan are now spoilt for choice as the Stuttgart-based carmaker is introducing a RWD Taycan model.

The fourth variant slots just below the Taycan 4S and unlike its stablemates who are AWD, the junior spawn a RWD setup and it’s available in two battery sizes; Standard and Performance Battery Plus.

The Standard Battery boasts 79.2kWh while the Performance Battery Plus lurks 93.4kWh.

The power generated by the Standard Taycan is 300 kW and 350 kW for the optional Performance Battery Plus. Nominal power is 240 kW and 280 kW respectively.

Power is sent to the rear axle via a  single, rear-mounted electric motor.

Porsche says the Standard Taycan can travel up to 431 km. The model fitted with the Performance Plus Battery Plus can do 484 km before needing a recharge.

Speaking of performance, both Taycans can silently hurdle from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds en route to a top speed of 230 km/h.

Getting the models recharged from 5 to 80 per cent requires 22.5 minutes and the manufacturer claims that will give the vehicles a travel range of approximately 100 km.

On the outside, the Porsche Taycan RWD is fitted with aerodynamically optimised 19-inch Taycan Aero wheels and black anodised brake callipers.

It is priced from R2 222 700 and is available to order in South Africa.
