Hang 10! Protea is back to entertain you

Chairperson Bob Stone said entertainment was one of the industries that was knocked the hardest.

The team at Protea Stage Productions has teamed up with three other societies to hold their annual 10-minute play, Hang 10! in Edenvale on November 27 and 28.

The other three societies are Roodeport Little Theatre, Franklin Players and Edenvale EADS.

“The annual 10-minute play festival started off as a tribute to Margaret Todd,” said vice-chairperson Mark Worrell.

Todd produced several Protea productions until her death in 2017.

Chairperson Bob Stone said entertainment was one of the industries that was knocked the hardest by the lockdown.

“We were in the middle of rehearsals for our mid-year production when Covid-19 hit,” he explained.
“This is therefore our first and only production for the year.”

The series of 10-minute plays used to be showcased at Tom Newby School, but due to Covid-19, the hall is being utilised for storage.

As a result, the production will be held at St. Chad’s Anglican Church on the corners of Fourth Street and Eighth Avenue, Edenvale.

“The production costs R50 and covers both nights,” Stone explained.

“There are about 15 plays and half will be shown on the first night while the other half will be shown on the second.”

Worrell encouraged attendees to pre-book to ensure their family has a table of their own.

“All protocol regarding the Covid-19 screening will be adhered to,” Worrell said.

The show will start at 7.30pm but guests are advised to arrive half an hour beforehand to go through the screening process.

For more information, contact Worrell on 083 320 4991 or Stone on 083 325 9557.

Tickets can be pre-booked by emailing Worrell on tickets@proteastage.org.za
