Boasting a 40 TSFI e PHEV sticker, the new plug-in hybrid comes equipped with a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor.

The engine alone makes 110 kW of power while the electric motor generates 80 kW.  The combined power output is rated at 150 kW and 350 Nm of torque.

The power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed S Tronic automatic transmission that, according to Audi, is lighter than before. The new Audi  TSFI e PHEV hurdles from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, its top speed is capped at 226 km/h.

Audi claims the A3 PHEV can travel up to 65 km on electric power alone and can reportedly be charged at home or at charging stations.

The PHEV model looks similar to the normal A3 variants and comes fitted with a wider grille, redesigned headlights, bonnet tweaks, and new air intakes.

The rear also gets new taillights and bumper design.

It runs on specially-designed 16-inch alloy wheels as standard. Buyers can opt for the 17-inch or 18-inch wheels. Inside, a full-size 12.3-inch digital instrument display is optional, along with a colour head-up display.

In Europe, the new A3 engine line-up is reportedly made up of a turbocharged 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 110 kW and a 2.0 TDI in two outputs, 85 kW and 110 kW.

The all-new Audi A3 will likely arrive in the second quarter of 2021.
