Don’t miss Sibikwa’s Seriti sa Basadi Showcase on Wednesday

A small number of data vouchers will be made available to participants from all nine provinces for the Seriti sa Basadi Virtual Event

During August, Sibikwa Arts Centre in partnership with several other organisations have celebrated the inimitable role women play in shaping society with Seriti sa Basadi, a project that affords women a digital space to celebrate their strength and agency for change.

This is in collaboration with the Department of Cooperative Governance, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and South African Cities Network.

Having launched the Seriti sa Basadi project in July, with an open invitation and call to all women in South Africa to submit recorded or written expressions of their perspectives on womanhood.

Sibikwa is excited to showcase a selection of entries that honour the power, resilience and agency of women to overcome and succeed in spite of the difficult circumstances that confront them.

The Seriti sa Basadi Showcase programme promises a diverse and authentic representation of inspired and empowered women and girls in South Africa, promoting awareness, collective understanding and a re-narrating of the present and future.

Follow Sibikwa on Facebook (Sibikwa Arts Centre) to see the selected entries received from women across the country, edited into three-minute multi-lingual multi-disciplinary episodes.

The Seriti sa Basadi Showcase is being presented and will continue leading up to the Seriti sa Basadi Virtual Event on August 26. The event will be hosted on Zoom and live-streamed to Facebook from 7pm to 8pm.

The programme will comprise performances and a panel discussion between female artists, activists and allies, responding to critical social issues, and the role that women play in challenging the status quo, crafting their realities and catalysing a better future.

The discussion, facilitated by Michelle Constant, journalist, radio presenter, business leader and consultant for the creative industries, aims to empower women through imparting knowledge and exploring alternative mechanisms and approaches for a more positive and hopeful outlook on life.

Panelists will be invited to share their experiences of owning their voice, claiming their space and succeeding in industries not always accommodating of women. The programme will end with the panel responding to questions and comments received on the Zoom and Facebook Live platforms. RSVP to info@sibikwa.co.za by 5pm on August 26 to reserve your space and receive the link for the Zoom webinar.

A small number of data vouchers will be made available to participants from all nine provinces for the Seriti sa Basadi Virtual Event, through an application process. Women who would like to receive this support are asked to submit a motivation letter to info@sibikwa.co.za by August 21.
