The Lion King, a great family outing

The Lion King was released in 1994.

In celebration of The Lion King’s 25th anniversary, Disney launched a realistic remake of the classic that kept most of us glued to our screens.

I, Terry-Ann Diergaardt, recently took my daughter and cousin to Ster-Kinekor to watch the movie, and as expected the cinema was packed with mothers and fathers bringing their little ones to watch a different version of the much-loved movie.

My daughter was even more excited as I told her this was one of the movies I watched repeatedly when I was her age.

We all got settled in and once my daughter saw a lion she disappointingly asked: “Mommy, why are we watching Lion Guard?”

I explained to her that the cartoon is similar to the movie, but it is not the same.

The storyline puts you on an emotional roller coaster.

Mufasa’s death seemed more real this time and got my daughter very emotional, as did I. It is no surprise that Scar is still the lion we love to hate.

The highlight of the whole experience was when young and old couldn’t resist singing along to Hakuna Matata and In The Jungle.

Watching this movie is a great family outing that could make for a good discussion afterwards, where both parents and children can share their input.
