Upcoming artist Claudia da Cunha will take the United States by storm when she represents South Africa at The Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in Orlando, Florida, in July.

The 18-year-old said going to Orlando, Florida, to attend the ARTS, gives her the opportunity to showcase her talents to some of the biggest agents in the USA and get the exposure she’s been waiting for.

“I’m excited about the new experience as I will meet different people with different talents and I will also share my talent with them as well,” said Claudia.

The Farrarmere resident has been a performer since primary school; however she started rapping in 2018.

“I’ve performed in numerous plays at school as well as Jack and the beanstalk and The Snow Queen at the Pretoria Youth Theatre.

“In 2012, I was scouted to perform at the Actors, Models and Talent for Christ (AMTC) showcase in Orlando and I was part of the top 10 for an acting performance.”

The former Benoni High School learner said her love and passion for acting and rapping motivates her to always push harder and she always puts 100 per cent into everything she does.

“Through my acting and rapping I want normal people just like me to be inspired by my love for the art and realise that they too can do what they love no matter their circumstances, I hope people can relate to my lyrics and the music can inspire them to be 100 per cent themselves,” said Claudia.

She said the entertainment industry is such a cut-throat and competitive industry wherever you go.

“One thing I’ve found challenging but actually builds ones character is the rejection.

“There are many people that are interested in getting into the industry; however you need to focus on you and improving your art.

“You can’t take the rejection personally but rather use it as motivation to work harder,” said Claudia.

“Younger artists and musicians aspiring to pursue their professional career in the entertainment industry need to be themselves. Don’t be part of a trend. Rather sell yourself as you are,” she added.
