Lakefield resident turns his dreams into a reality

Apart from work work work, he is making the most of every day life and counting his blessings.

There are so many ways to describe Fadeen Mia, but persistent would be the ideal one seeing as he sets his mind to something and then achieves it.

The 34-year-old Lakefield resident was previously featured in the City Times when he had achieved being a Mr South Africa finalist (2012), second runner-up Mr India South Africa (2013), Bar-One Manhunt finalist (2013), 48-Hour Film Festival, DJ Mixes featured on 5FM, radio DJ on a community station (East Wave Radio), worked on the set of the Hollywood film Chappie shot in Jozi and played a small role in Generations.

Since then, Mia, who likes to believe he has the energy of an 18-year-old, opened a company, has two movies out with another one in pre-production (Broken Promises 5) and produced and directed the latest season of Talk SA on SABC 2, which is in a rerun.

The actor produced and acted in Broken Promises4Ever which was released on July 27, and played a role in upcoming film Looking 4 Love which will be released on August 30.

“In Broken Promises4Ever I play a character called Harsheet, he is a lot like me – wild and carefree,” Mia explained.

“It is a story about the trials and tribulations that is experienced in the Indian household. It uses comedy to bring out the typical situations and issues that Indian people go through on a day to day basis.”

Whereas in Looking For Love, he plays a character that is the opposite of Harsheet.

“It is a story of Buyi who is looking for love in South Africa,” he said.

“The film takes us through the dating game and just what she gets up to as she tries to make her parents proud by trying to be like her sister, while she pushes to be a struggling comedian.”

Mia also founded a production company called Fadeen Productions in mid-2017.

“It is a film and media production company that makes films and television series for the South African market and soon for the international market,” he said.

“We have also just finished shooting our first music video which is dropping later this month.”

Although starting this company consumes his time so he does not have any hobbies right now, Mia said he left a successful job in the finance industry and has been pushing hard to make this company a success.

“This industry is brutal and unforgiving, many see the red carpet and the big screen, but getting there takes many nights of hard work, sacrifices and many challenges,” he said.

“There are days when you question why you would do this, but those are the days that you must dig deeper to find that love and passion.”

The stud advised upcoming actors and actresses to know their worth.

“I struggled to get any role as an actor for 18 months. When I landed a lead role in a short film it was all the push I needed. I didn’t look back,” he said.

“My journey has been a guy who just wanted to be on screen to partake in his passion every day.

“Know that if you feel deep down that you are worth it and you deserve it, then the world and the man upstairs will give it to you.”
