Musicians reach for the stars

Performers talent shine bright at Music Stars 2018.

Parents, grandparents, friends and family gathered at Farrarmere Primary School on Saturday (June 30) to watch their children perform in the Music Stars 2018 concert, hosted by Duerell’s School of Music.

The concert is held to showcase the students’ talent and achievements.

“The aim is to improve their confidence and stage presence,” said Duerell de Pontes, founder of the music school.

According to de Pontes, this special production is now in its 15th year.

The master of ceremonies was Kim Jansen, who engaged with the audience between performances.

About 98 children performed on the day, playing various instruments, such as the accordion, classical guitar, keyboard, drums, piano and the violin, and there were vocals and band performances in various age groups.

The three judges looked at each performance based on stage presence, music technique and the overall performance.

The judges were Miguel Pregueiro, Katia da Ponte and Celia Zietsman.

Pregueiro and da Ponte also performed on the day.

A prize-giving ended the concert and each student was given a participation certificate and medal.

Special awards went to Kayleigh Grange and Mangaliso Sesing as most improved students for 2018.
