Sibikwa empowers the community

Poets like Sabelo Soko and Flo Mokale graced the stage and wowed the audience.

The Sibikwa Arts Centre recently hosted a poetry session for the community at their property in Liverpool Road.

Founded in 1988 by Smal Ndaba and Phyllis Klotz, Sibikwa has extensive experience in vocational training in the performing arts, arts education, community development through the arts and the creation of innovative South African performance pieces.

Flo Mokale spoke to the audience.

Poets like Sabelo Soko and Flo Mokale graced the stage and wowed the audience.

The centre also runs a Creative Arts Programme with poetry as one of the disciplines, taught by Flo Mokale.

“The students had so much fun on stage and gave a lot of us a run for our money,” said Sibikwa social media representative Kgomotso Mashilo.

Rudy Motseatsea also graced the stage.

“Sibikwa prides itself on empowering the youth and as the biggest arts centre in Gauteng, which has been functioning for 30 years. We will keep on fighting this good fight.”

Mashilo said art is an intricate part of the community.
