Wong walks to fame in LA

Wong found the trip to be both scary and exciting.

Former Miss Benoni 2014 Chanley Wong visited Los Angeles recently to interview the cast of Midnight Sun that was released on April 6 in South Africa.

“I interviewed the cast for the show I present on eTV called Sistahood,” said the Farrarmere resident.

“My experience in LA was one in a million – it was an incredible experience.

“It was my first international work trip where I went completely alone, so it was scary and exciting all at the same time.”

Midnight Sun is an American romantic drama film directed by Scott Speer and written by Eric Kirsten, based on the 2006 Japanese film of the same name.

“It follows a teenage girl with the disease xeroderma pigmentosum that prevents her from going into the sun light,” Wong explained.

“When she meets a boy, she struggles to decide whether to tell him about her condition or live a normal life.”

Wong said she was so grateful to have this experience during her trip in March.

After her interview with Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Rob Riggle at the Four Seasons hotel in Beverly Hills, wong attended the red carpet première in Hollywood for the film where all the stars of the film walked the red carpet, including Justin Bieber, who happened to be in attendance.

“I am the biggest Justin Bieber fan,” she said.

“I’m such a Belieber so to have Justin Bieber walk past me on the red carpet one or two metres away from me, in Hollywood, was crazy!”

You can take the girl out of Benoni, but you cannot take the Benoni out of the girl who also visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame to take a photograph at the former Benonian, Charlize Theron’s star.

“It was such a full circle moment for me: a small town Benoni girl from Farrarmere who was in LA living her dream too, hoping that one day she’ll have her star on the Walk of Fame too,” Wong added.

Although Wong returned to Benoni, she is no stranger to the land of LA.

“The first time I went [to LA] was in August 2017,” she said.

“My boyfriend, Jethro Tait, won a competition that flew us over to meet and spend the day with Liam Payne,” she said.

“We spent the day with him in studio and enjoyed lunch with him at Nobu in Malibu.”
