Duo intend to hip-hop to the top

Daveyton hip-hop duo OneBlood are ready to make a name in the music industry.

The pair, Mxolisi Mgudhlwa (Mx dafreshprince) and Bandile Masango (C-Hooks) released their single Da Blood Anthem earlier this month, which is number three (September 12) on the ‘HIP HOP 99’ on YFM.

These aspiring artists are working on their 16-track album, titled Amen.

The album features Stilo Magolide, Bizzuit, Supreme Phoenix, Jay and Hydro.

They describe their sound as ‘alternative hip hop’.

Mgudhlwa said their love for music is what brought them together.

“We believe in creating our own paths,” said Mgudhlwa.

“Music is our bread and butter and we enjoy every moment.”

When asked about some their challenges, Masango said getting into the music industry was difficult without financial backing.

Mgudhlwa is a producer, songwriter and sound engineer while Masango is a vocalist and songwriter.

“In five years’ time we see ourselves being one of the biggest acts to come out of Africa and living the dream that we’ve been chasing,” said the pair.

Masango said they are motivated by their families, management team and they both encourage each other to do better.

They look up to AKA, Cassper Nyovest, DaLes, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Tory Lanez, Mampintsha, Nasty C and Emtee.

“All those who would like to follow in our footsteps must respect their craft; hard work really pays off in the end,” said Masango.
