Prepare for dance battle

For the first time ever, Carnival City will be hosting the 26th Annual Battle of the Giants All Styles Dance Festival, from August 4 to 7.

The festival is traditionally held at Sun City.

The competition, which is internationally recognised and is organised and sanctioned by the South African Body of Dance, will be open to dancers from both amateur and professional levels.

Competitors will showcase their talents in an array of dancing styles that will vary from hip-hop to ballet and more.

There will also be a category for para-dance, where able and disabled dancers can form small groups to dance together to compete in the festival.

UK guest judge “Super Malcolm”, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in dance, will also be judging in the competition.

Prizes up for grabs include a flight to the International Dance Organization, or a package to Umhlanga Rocks, sponsored by Lara Travel.

Other prizes include Sun City holiday packages and trophies.

“We are really excited to provide the stage for this year’s Battle of the Giants,” said the events and entertainment manager at Carnival City, Matthew Cook.

“We expect capacity crowds at the Big Top Arena and Mardi Gras.”

Tickets for the festival will be available at Computicket.

Dance entry enquiries can be directed to Bev Wood on 083 282 7734 or email bewood@vodamail.co.za
