All the latest trends available at Exclusively Me

A visit to Exclusively Me (EM) beauty salon, on O’Reilly Merry Street, really made me feel like it was all about me.

Natasha Nunes, who owns the salon, which specialises in skin care, body, nails and hair, offers the latest trends in nail art and expert advice on skin care and treatments.

“We have colour changing gels, a wide range of colour nail polishes, three dimension acrylic art, glitter fade and acrylic sculptures,” said Nunes.

“We support local brands like Lamelle, Spalicious, Six Sensational Skincare and Bio Sculpture Gel, as well as international brands like Young Nails and IBD Gels.”

I had my nails done at the beauty salon on Thursday (June 1) morning and Nunes treated me to their all-time classic Acrylic Overlay White and Pink Ombre, with a three dimensional (3D) glitter effect on my ring fingers.

“Ombre nails are a great alternative to the French manicure,” Nunes said.

Because I already had a set of acrylic nails, Tryphina Mokhoathi, who has been working at the salon since it was opened, seven years ago, had to soak them before the process could begin.

“To soak, I use a nail drill to remove the first layer of product,” she said.

“I then place cotton wool soaked in acetone on top of each nail and then wrap each nail in foil.”

She then placed a warm bean bag on top of my hands to speed up the soak-off process.

After soaking off my first set of nails, Nunes took over and encapsulated the glitter on my ring fingers to give it a 3D effect.

She then applied the primer which helped acrylic to stick to my nails.

Then she began with the Ombre nails process.

“I first apply white acrylic to the nails, fading it from the tip to the bottom,” she said.

“Then I apply the blush acrylic from the bottom to the tip, so it blends with no lines between the two colours.

“Lastly, I apply the clear acrylic from the middle to the tip of the nail in order to seal the nail, to avoid filing off the blush.”

After that, she filed and shaped my nails into a square shape, according to my preference.

She then cleansed the nails with a cleanser, to clean off any oils.

Lastly, she applied the Top Coat Gel Glaze to add shine and finally seal my nails, with an ending of cuticle oil to nourish my cuticles.

I then met one of EM’s loyal clients, Maria Santana, who agreed to be their Guinea pig for a one hour hot hydrating wrap, with back and neck massage.

The massage was done by Mokhoathi, who began with their welcome ritual of an aroma foot cleanse and full body pressure point massage.

“This ritual is done to make the client comfortable and to familiarise myself with the pressure I can use on the client’s body,” she said.

After this, the back and neck massage is done, using a Spalicious arnica and mint massage oil, which helps for tired and overworked body muscles.

Once the back and neck massage is concluded, a hydrating wrap is heated up and placed on the back to lock in the hydration and moisture for a few minutes.

During this time, Mokhoathi massaged Santana’s head and the whole massage concluded with a back cleanse and a body butter, cocoa marshmallow application.

Nunes started EM in Northmead in 2009 and Mokhoathi was the first woman to work with her.

Today, she has five staff members in total, including Nkele Monama, Cynthia Mogaswane, Samantha Young and Angelina Mbatha. SR
