Apple visits St Dunstan’s

Teen star Johnny Apple made an appearance at St Dunstan’s College on Tuesday (March 29), for an interview with matric pupil Megan Watts, and she was not the only girl who blushed over him.

The 2013 SA’s Got Talent winner, who will be performing in the Festival @ St Dunstan’s on May 7, walked into the college on Tuesday afternoon and had girls running to take pictures with him.

Apple said, in his interview with Watts, that he is excited about performing at the festival, because his music is meaningful to him, and he hopes to share that excitement with the crowd on the day.

“I sing from my heart,” he explained.

The Not Over You artist said he is striving to one day have the same kind of fame that Canadian artist Justin Bieber has.

Although he has released an album and performed in front of several crowds, Apple still does pre-show warm-ups.

“I drink a lot of water,” he said.

“Then I lie on the floor and play with my phone, because it relaxes me.”

Asked about the challenges along his walk to fame, Apple said social media was a major contributor.

“Some people post things about you that can be mean,” he said.

“But I have learned not to take it seriously.”

The star believes he has so much more music to offer to his listeners.

“I plan to release my second album later this year,” he added.

Small facts about Apple that fans may not know: he likes to doodle (creative art drawing), partying with his friends and strategic drawing.

He also said if music was not the career for which he opted, he would have become a veterinarian.

Festival tickets are still on sale, so catch Apple along with Gangs of Ballet, DJ Voltrex, Moloi.Hesse Band, Chunda Munki, Timo ODV, DJ Fresh and Desmond and the Tutus, in May.
