Go bananas for DJ Munki

DJ Chunda Munki (although he is 100 per cent human) is ecstatic to be part of the DJ line-up for the Festival @ St Dunstan’s on May 7.

Chunda Munki, formerly known as DJ Blayze, had a passion for music since he was a toddler.

“I’ve had that passion ever since I can remember,” the DJ said.

“Since I was a baby Munki swinging in the trees, I have been listening to cassette tapes of my dad’s.”

The DJ found his love for the house music scene after he left high school in Grade 11.

“A friend of mine introduced me to house music,” he said.

“Soon after, my friends were asking me to ‘do the music’ at all our parties and gatherings.

“I entered a few DJ competitions, gained residency at Vertigo nightclub and the rest is history.”

DJ Munki said his fans are his biggest motivation to perform.

“Sometimes I would be in studio with zero inspiration, and I look at my Instagram or SoundCloud,” he said.

“Then I would read what my supporters say about my music, and it reminds me that whatever I’m doing, I’m doing right.”

He was born to play music.

“I enjoyed any subject that did not involve maths,” he said.

“Art was probably my favourite subject, and any class that the teacher was absent.”

Although most public figures lives are exploited all over social media, the DJ said he enjoys his privacy.

“I’m a very private person; I keep my circle small and try to avoid any drama.”

He encouraged fans to visit The Festival because the music line-up is amazing.

“There’s nothing better than sharing a stage with people who are just as passionate as I am about music,” he said.

Tickets are on sale at St Dunstan’s College, the Benoni City Times office, Wakaberry Oakfields (Northmead) and Harvey World Travel Benoni (Rynfield), during work hours on weekdays.

Other bands and DJs who will be performing on the day are: Gangs of Ballet, DJ Voltrex, Moloi.Hesse Band, Johnny Apple, Timo ODV, DJ Fresh and Desmond and the Tutus.

Bongi Mthombeni will MC the event.
