Mooirivier on the big screen

From the creators of Klein Karoo, Kaapland Films now bring you an exciting new Afrikaans film, entitled Mooirivier.

Produced by Cobus van den Berg, Tim Theron and Jorrie van der Walt, and written and directed by Rene van Rooyen, Mooirivier opened in cinemas across South Africa on February 6.

The film, which features five different story lines, a first for South Africa, is a movie about love and features an all star cast, with the likes of Tim Theron, Anel Alexander, Hykie Berg, Milan Murray, Nadia Beukes, Heinz Winkler, Bouwer Bosch, Leandie du Randt, Danie Putter, Bennie Fourie, Francois Viviers, Elmie Brits and others.

It also features original music, by renowned South African artists.

Mooirivier evolves around the lives of six couples, ranging from 12 to 40 years in age, each of them on their own path to discovering true love.

Viewers must not, however, expect a typical love story — the film shows the reality of love with, at times, sad and comical elements.

Throughout the production, each character’s story is told from their own viewpoint and they learn that, most of the time, love looks different to the pre-conceived notions people tend to have in their heads.

Viewers are also reminded that, if they are willing to fight for it, despite its challenges and hardships, love always wins.

Mooirivier was filmed and is set in Potchefstroom.

The producers also donated all the clothes and bedding used in the production to the Doulos Poverty Relief programme, after the conclusion of filming.

Moorivier is director Rene van Rooyen’s first full length feature film.

She won the best short film category at the Silwerskermfees, in 2012, for her short movie, Nantes.

Mooirivier is showing at Ster Kinekor, Northmead Square.
