Rescue underway as motorbike rider falls 10 metres down mine shaft

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services are currently trying to rescue an 18-year-old motorbike rider who fell down a mine shaft in the veld off Golden Drive this afternoon.

Byron McNeil fell down the 10m deep hole after veering off a training track. 
He is trapped with his two-wheel motorbike in a 10m hole which is about two square metres. 
McNeil’s mother, Nina McNeil, said her son believes he broke his leg in the fall.
Byron is conscious and is communicating with rescue personnel

. 
The 18-year-old was riding with his friend, Kyle West, when the incident occurred.
