Davies would do it all over again

Superbike racer Janine Davies (26) had a short, but memorable experience on the TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

She was the first person to be eliminated from the show, recently.

“What an experience, I tell you,” said Davies.

“Everything from glitz and glam to seriously hard work.

“It is definitely something I will cherish and want to do again.”

Although Davies feels more at home on the race track, Davies will not yet hand up her newly-found dancing shoes and will take up dancing with her husband.

“I learnt a lot more about myself and about dancers,” she said.

“I always thought dancing was easy — trust me, it is not.

“Dancers put their blood, sweat and tears into perfecting a routine of one minute, and for that I have so much more respect for them.”

The Brentwood Park resident started riding motorbikes when she was 14 years old and recently became the first South African woman to compete in a national championship race for 1 000cc and the first woman to achieve a podium place in the first round of the South African National Super GP Championship.

Although Davies was sad when she exited the show, she said her main objective of entering the show was to create awareness for women who participate in male-dominated sports.

The racer said her favourite moment on the show was when she and her partner, Tsholofelo Mohohlwane practised a routine in the prize-giving room of a racing track, after he had competed in an eight-hour endurance race.
