Total hair colour transformation

With spring peeking around the corner, some people are beginning to enhance their appearances through various ways in preparation for the sunny season.

Some are getting back to the gym to get their bikini bodies into shape; others are already shopping for that perfect sun dress.

One of the ways in which Bev Kibby, our model, has decided to bring some sunshine into her life, is through lightening her hair by transforming herself from a fiery redhead to a blonde bombshell.

We recently spent the day at Scizzor Lounge Hair Studio, at the Lifestyle Terrace, in Northmead, where Bev went for her second round of highlights, to accomplish this colour.

Owner of the salon and hairstylist Charlene Fourie stressed the importance of completing the process gradually when going blonde from a dark colour.

She said bleaching all the hair at once will damage it hair and result in it breaking off.

She added that transforming hair colour from red to blonde may also take longer, as red pigmentation is more difficult to get rid of than other colours.

Charlene commenced the process with blonde foils.

She added Elixir oil, which is argon and tamau oil, to the bleach, to prevent damage to Bev’s hair.

“It is winter and everything is already dry; we dont need to make it more dry,” said Charlene.

She coloured her client’s hair a golden brown in between the blonde.

Other than being pampered, a benefit at this salon is that Charlene is one of the nicest people I have met, who visibly has a passion for her career.

She said many clients are conservative and prefer maintaining their hair ín a style similar to what it is.

“Every now and then someone like Bev walks in, who wants a total change, then I’m happy because I can play and get creative.”

“It’s great to make clients feel good about themselves,” she said.

While Charlene completed our model’s hair, Ronel Mayer, from the Healing Hub downstairs completed her look by doing her make-up.

Ronel said because Bev has blue eyes, either pastel colours or natural colours would enhance her look.

She decided to go with a natural look to emphasise her natural beauty.

After washing off Bev’s hair, Charlene applied a toner with an added ash colour, to remove more of the remaining red pigmentation.

When her hair had been blow-dried, we finally got to see the end result, which was stunning.

Charlene advised Bev to give her hair some rest for a few weeks, after which she will put in more blonde highlights.

Bev left the salon with her hair in a healthy condition and elegant colour and is one step closer to flourish as a beautiful blonde this summer.TB
