Experience Kaz’s beauty one-stop

Let's admit it; we women feel better after we've been pampered and look like a million bucks.

However, with life turning into a highway, it has become highly important to prioritise our lifestyles and time-consumption.

A belief belonging to Karen Jones — or Kaz as she is better known — which I strongly second, is that a woman should not neglect herself due to a lack of time and, for this reason, she established a beauty clinic and day spa in 1986 that, to this day, wholesomely attends to your every need, simultaneously.

This was recently demonstrated at Kaz’s Corner, on 21 Tenth Avenue, Northmead, on Carol Semple, who agreed to be our guinea pig for the day.

She was treated to a make-over that included a hair colouring, mani- and pedicure and make-up.

Like many women, Carol did not want anything too drastic done to her hair, so Louise Rudolph, hair stylist at the spa, decided to give her blonde and copper highlights with a medium blonde base colour and “spoiler alert” —  it worked fantastically.

Louise used a light copper colour, so that it would not overpower the blonde, but rather complement it.

She blow-waved Carol’s hair and used a styling gum to perfect the look.

Nail technician Portia Bokhale treated her feet, which were massaged, trimmed, cleansed and polished to look and feel like the gorgeous woman each female deserves to.

At the same time, Nomsa Chaka performed a similar treatment on her hands.

They used a massage cream to clean and exfoliate her hands during this royal treatment, which Carol said was very relaxing.

Carol preferred her fingernails clean and natural and Nomsa assured this with a clear nail base.

“It gives the nail a nice neutral colour,” said Nomsa.

She added a shiny top coat and finished with an oil polish treatment.

Portia finished her toenails with a pretty bright pink coat of nail polish which she assured her would last long.

Kaz then completed her model’s look by applying her make-up.

She gave a few golden tips that even had me in my element.

“Never work upwards with foundation, always apply downwards to keep the baby hairs on the skin down,” was one.

With this she advised that you should always use powder with your foundation to keep it on for longer.

She added a rosy pink blusher on Carol’s cheeks and eyes which she said could be done for an everyday neutral effect.

This day, however, was for going all out and making her client look fabulous and she went at it.

She started with a brown application to her eyes.

Kaz explained that you should always use brown if you have blue or green eyes as it enhances the natural colour.

She added some more colours and finished it off with a light line of eyeliner and mascara.

“The older we get, the softer the lines need to be,” added Kaz.

She coloured in her eyebrows with a golden brown eye pencil and finished off with a natural red lipstick.

The proof was in the pudding and Carol looked stylish yet elegant.

She said she loved her look and felt great.

“It’s been a very nice experience and I would recommend this salon to everyone,” she added.

I appreciated the warm homey environment in which all the staff went out of their way to make their clients feel welcome, at home and simply special.

It was most admirable to experience how time was saved when hair and nail treatments are performed at the same time.

The spa also has a tea garden and kitchen where Irene Nxumalo, who’s been with Kaz for 25 years, prepares mouthwatering light lunches and treats for customers to enjoy during or after their beauty treatments.

It also offers a range of other treatments including eyelash extensions, sunbed and facials among more.TB
