No Mandela movie screening at Ster-Kinekor

The Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom film will for the next 24 hours not be available for viewing at Ster-Kinekor Theatres across South Africa.

EAST RAND – At the same time, Primedia Broadcasting has suspended all advertising on its four radio stations – Talk Radio 702, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, 567 Cape Talk and 94.5 Kfm – as a mark of respect following the passing of Nelson Mandela.

The former president died at his Houghton home in Johannesburg last night at the age of 95.

Primedia Group CEO, Kuben Pillay, says the decision to suspend the screening of the film for this period, was made in consultation with producer, Anant Singh.

“We lost the father of our nation and join millions of people around the world today in mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, comrades, friends and the people of our nation and the world during this difficult time.

“Thank you Madiba. Thank you for giving up your freedom so that we could have ours, for teaching us grace and humility and showing us a better way. A great light has indeed gone out and while we celebrate his life and legacy, we are deeply saddened by his passing,” Pillay added.

Primedia will use its various digital platforms to pay tribute to Madiba over the mourning period.

“We are privileged to have lived during Madiba’s lifetime and to have shared in his journey. Let’s all come together to celebrate that lifetime by uniting in his memory,” Pillay concluded.
