Beware of card cloning

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has warned residents to be aware of bank and credit card cloning, especially during the festive season.

Speaking at the CPF AGM, in the Benoni City Hall, on October 30, EMPD acting precinct commander Supt Jacques Vorster said cloning no longer occurs only at the ATMs.

“It takes place in retail shops as well, so you must be careful at all times,” he warned.

He then turned to road safety and advised motorists to have respect for each other, to prevent unnecessary accidents.

“Selfish, ignorant and reckless driving contributes to deaths and injuries, so please care for one another and drive safely in order to preserve life,” he said.

Vorster appealed to motorists to care for pedestrians as well, saying they, too, have road rights.

He added that the EMPD has been tasked with escorting matric papers from the Department of Education to various schools in the area.
