Stars dominate Youth Day tourney

A great achievement for the Aelen Stars that we have worked so hard for in the past years to ensure the growth and development of the sport in Ekurhuleni."

The Aelen Stars Basketball Academy’s U16A and U16B teams slam-dunked their opponents to set up an Aelen Stars final during the Ekurhuleni Youth Day Basketball Tournament held in Germiston on June 16.

The two teams were placed in different pools and went through the round-robin and knock-outs undefeated, meeting in a one-sided final which the A team won 62-23.

The academy’s coach, Michael Murerwa, commented that seeing two of his teams in the final was a reward for all their hard work throughout the years.

The Aelen Stars Basketball Academy’s U16B team were runners-up.

“It was a great showcasing of talent and skill by both teams. A great achievement for the Aelen Stars that we have worked so hard for in the past years to ensure the growth and development of the sport in Ekurhuleni.

“To have our A and B teams take first and second place was amazing,” he said.

“This was a great initiative by the organisers. We look forward to participating in more tournaments in the region and providing a platform for children to nurture and grow their sporting talent,” said Murerwa.

The academy is based in Benoni and those interested in basketball are welcome to contact Coach Michael Murerwa on 071 383 2395 or michael@aelenstars.co.za.
